Education
Monthly, SMRA hosts a Rodeo Night at various locations in the Nashville area. The night consists of:
- A membership meeting to discuss the organization's business and make members aware of events happening throughout the community and IGRA
- 2 hours of Country Line dance lessons taught by an instructor
A membership table, staffed by SMRA members, that:
- Answer questions regarding rodeo events/categories depicted on posters and shown via DVD on TV
- Promotes IGRA and rodeo dates occurring around the country
- Advertises SMRA's 501c3 Charity Partners: Alive Hospice, Angel Heart
Farm, The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation and The Vanderbilt Children and
Adolescent HIV/AIDS Clinic, and educate folks on what they do through flyers and posters, and sometimes with staff provided by the organizations
Annually, SMRA offers educational opportunities to its members and the community by:
- Hosting a Play Day with lessons/discussions on rodeo events including horse back riding, barrels, pole bending and roping
- Hosting booths during Nashville's and Clarkville's annual Pride festivals with the membership table and info described above. During the 2006 Clarksville festival, SMRA performed a rodeo exhibition to demonstrate rodeo horse events. For the Nashville festival, SMRA obtained a mechanical bull and gave instructions on proper bull riding techniques
- Coordinating trips that are open to all members and the community to nearby IGRA sponsored rodeos (Little Rock, Atlanta and St. Louis)
- Encouraging all members to attend the IGRA University where "degrees" are given for completion of studies
- Encouraging all members to attend IGRA Convention as a delegate (limit of 5) or guest
- Encouraging members to volunteer for and participate in other organizations to cross-educate our members
